This week Pastor Dave ends his sermon series about the life of Moses at the border of the Promised land. Fittingly, we end the series with Moses death. Past Dave examines why Moses is not allowed into the Promised land. He exhorts the congregation to trust God to lead even as God led the Israelites into the Promised land.
Bible passage- Dueteronomy 34:1-9
On this Sunday's continuation of the Moses story, Pastor Dave explores the Exodus passage about the Golden calf. Pastor Dave explains that, when Moses is on the mountain, the people of Israel demand a new god, so Aaron makes a golden calf idol. He then explores the idea that the Israelites are not the only ones who make idols. We can make idols of everything and almost anything, he suggests. Pastor Dave then challenges us with what gods to we put before God?
Bible passage- Exodus 32:1-20
This week Pastor Dave continues the Moses story with a discussion about the 10 commandments. Pastor Dave explores the idea that the commandments are not about setting up restrictive rules. Instead, they are about a way to live free. Pastor Dave explains that the commandments were a way for the Israelites to move into a life of freedom and away from their past life of slavery in Egypt. He ends with the question, "What enslaves you?"
Bible passage- Exodus 20:1-4, 7-9, 12-20
This week Pastor Dave explores the Biblical passage where God miraculously provides water for desperate Israelites. He explores what this miracle reveals about the character of God.
Bible passage- Exodus 17:1-7
This week Pastor Dave shares that he will be stepping down from his position at the end of October. He continues his series on the life of Moses comparing the journey through the wilderness for the Israelites to the experiences Seaside is going through. He explains the Israelites had four stages of their crisis in the desert; 1)Crisis, 2)Complaining, 3)Provision, 4) Deliverance. He then takes us through how this applied to the Israelites and how it applies to Seaside. He concludes with a challenge to find how God is making a provision for you in your "desert" experience.
Bible passage- Exodus 16:1-15
This week Pastor Dave begins our new series on the story of Moses. Pastor Dave takes us through the beginning of Moses' story* showing how many women, who Pharaoh discounts, enable his salvation and rescue. He ends with the question, where is God? He then exhorts us to see the ways God was working and continue to work today.

This week Pastor Don Whitcomb visits Seaside and explores how God sustains us through hard times with the Church.
Bible passage Psalm 90:1-2,45
*About Pastor Don:
Like Pastor Dave, Don Whitcomb has roots in central Florida. Since his Dad was Supervisor of Citrus and Vegetable Inspection for the Fla. Dep't. of Agriculture, he and his 2 brothers spent their lives in the part of the state largely given over to citrus groves. Graduating from High School in Avon Park in 1964, he then graduated with a B.A. in Religion from Fla. Presbyterian (now Eckerd) College in St. Petersburg, in 1968. He then went north to suburban Boston, to Andover Newton Theological School, the oldest Protestant Seminary in the US, where he graduated with a M.Div. in 1971. While there he met his wife, Jean Tschudy Whitcomb, from Wisconsin, who earned her Master's in Religious Education, also in 1971. From May of 1972 through June of 2013, Don served as Pastor of the First Congregational Church in Paxton, a suburb of Worcester, Massachusetts, and was honored to be made Pastor Emeritus of the Paxton Church upon retirement. While Don is an Ordained Minister in the United Church of Christ, Jean is a Commissioned Minister, and served the Church in Paxton as Minister of Music and Education during the same time period. Moving to Hermosa Beach in August of 2013, Don and Jean joined the closest UCC parish to them, Manhattan Beach Community Church, in early 2014. Don has Preached at MBCC often, and he and Jean have served Communion there several times, as they will again this July. Don also relishes his involvement at Seaside, where as of May 21st, he will have Preached 11 times. Don finds Seaside-its Pastor, Staff , and people very welcoming to him and attends as often as he can, even when he doesn't Preach or lead Worship.
